curiousKC | Your Input Needed for Our Next Episode on Guns A Hot Topic Deserves Civil Discourse
Published May 2nd, 2022 at 1:00 PM
Missouri has among the highest gun death rates in the United States, a Pew Research reveals. Jackson County in the Kansas City metro area ranked third for midsize counties with the highest gun death rates.
For this reason, the Flatland show and curiousKC reporting team are focusing on this topic in May. Year after year, gun deaths have risen. Studies point to guns for suicides, accidental deaths and homicides.
Parent advocacy organizations have been vocal about the need for protections for schools and their children. Gun rights groups are vocal about the freedom to protect themselves.
The issue raises a multitude of worthy topics: legislative power, strict background checks, access to firearms, mental health and personal safety.
