Grandview superintendent to retire

Kansas City-area school districts have seen a ton of superintendent turnover within the past few years, and the trend continued Friday with the announcement that Grandview’s Ralph Teran will retire at the end of this school year after a decade in the job.

The school board lauded Teran for helping to improve student achievement in the district, noting in a news release that the district has earned accreditation with distinction from the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education for the past two years.

“I am grateful to the board of education for being an outstanding collaborative team of seven caring, smart and dedicated leaders,” Teran said in the release. “Likewise, Grandview (district) staff members have impacted my life for the better in countless ways. I am a better person and educator because of the great work they do.”

Grandview is part of a 29-district consortium known as the Cooperating School Districts of Greater Kansas City, and nearly two thirds of the participating districts have hired a new top administrator within the last three years.

The board said it had already discussed the process for finding a new superintendent, promising a “diligent search” to find Teran’s successor.
