Our Daily Nada, the anticipated new River Market bookstore and cafe, expects to open this week, featuring the welcoming escape envisioned in its namesake short story by Ernest Hemingway.
“We want it to be a comfortable place for people to relax and enjoy a drink,” said co-owner Andrea Baca. “There will be lots of nooks and crannies, places for people to hang out.”
And books to browse and buy, wine and cocktails to drink, and foods to nosh on.
The new venture at 304 Delaware will add to the growing number of unique and pedestrian-oriented food and drink venues along the historic stretch of Delaware between Third and Fifth streets.
Baca and her co-founder Amy Covitz met as attorneys at the Shook Hardy Bacon law firm.
They’ve now exchanged one bar for another, leaving legal work behind for a bar at Our Daily Nada that will specialize in European wines and literary-themed signature cocktails such as the Huckleberry, a bourbon drink inspired by Mark Twain.
There will also be daily house wine specials, red or white Spanish wines selling for $5.
Lighter food fare including soups, charcuterie boards and toasts spread with avocado or prosciutto and peaches will be offered and desserts prepared by Bloom bakery.
The book selection will be heavy on cook books, new fiction, classics (Hemingway included, of course) and non-fiction.
Outside on the wide sidewalk, several small cafe tables and chairs will be placed for those wanting to sip or dine and watch passersby or the streetcar making its rounds.
Hours are Tuesdays through Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.; Fridays from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m.; Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m., and Sundays from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Our Daily Nada will be closed Mondays.
