If you have a hankering for a comedic road movie with Kansas City serving as a backdrop, consider writer/director Morgan Dameron’s “Different Flowers.”
The movie focuses on a would-be bride who beats the retreat from the altar with her free-spirited younger sister. It simultaneously explores the dynamics of sisterhood while serving as a love letter of sorts to the heartland.
“As a female filmmaker, it’s incredibly important for me to center female experiences, but also to make those inclusive experiences that reflect the world around us,” Dameron said.
“I love being called a female filmmaker. I think the future of film is female.”
Dameron shares how she has navigated a male-dominated movie industry, and how she’s managed to balance both independent films and blockbusters like “Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens,” where she is quite literally name dropped.
