Art House | Expect ‘The Unexpected’ to Affect You

At its best, cinema is more than mere escapism.

Just ask Kansas City producer Khalid Abdulqaadir and writer/director Remi Adeleke, the driving forces behind “The Unexpected,” which illuminates the human toll of organ trafficking.

The short film, shot in just a few days by an almost entirely Kansas City crew, unfolds in reverse chronology like modern-day cult classic “Memento.” The unusual storytelling approach makes the tragic tale more palatable for viewers.

Adeleke, though, is deadly serious about the topic.

“It’s not a happy ending…,” he says. “But the main purpose behind this film is to bring awareness around the realities of organ harvesting.”

To learn more about the making of this gripping film shot here in Kansas City, watch the attached video.
