Food Network celebrity Guy Fieri’s new restaurant at the Power & Light District has opened, just in time to serve up tacos and cocktails to fans attending the Big 12 Men’s Basketball Tournament in mid-March.
“Guy Fieri’s Dive & Taco Joint” is being designed to resemble an American roadhouse joint, according to a press release. It’s taking over the space formerly occupied by Cleaver & Cork near the KC Live! performance stage.
“Guy’s influence can be felt throughout the space as the American roadhouse look and feel is informed by the thousands of locally legendary restaurants, bars and all-around dives that he’s visited around the country,” according to the release.
Fieri has spent significant time in Kansas City over the years. He was inducted into the American Royal BBQ Hall of Fame in 2012 at its inaugural ceremony held at the American Royal World Series of Barbeque in Kansas City.
“Ever since I first started competing at the American Royal 15 years ago, I’ve dreamed of opening a joint in Kansas City,” Fieri said in a statement.

“And over the years, while shooting ‘Diners, Drive Ins & Dives’ in the area, I’ve met some great folks who love a good time and know real deal food when they find it. So, now I’ve finally got a place to invite them all over to party and get their taco on.”
The Taco Joint menu items include the ‘Al Pastor’ tacos – Boulevard Ginger Grapefruit-glazed pork tacos with chipotle and sweet onion, grilled pineapple-serrano salsa, cilantro, cotija and an avocado-tomatillo salsa, and the ‘Achiote Chicken’ tacos – shredded, slow-braised achiote-marinated chicken tacos with borracho sauce, pico de gallo, cabbage, cotija and salsa rojo.
The bar menu will include signature margaritas like the ‘Caliente’– Tequila, Cointreau, lime juice, jalapeno and cilantro, and the ‘Roasted Hawaiian’ –Tequila with Triple Sec, lime and lemon juices, roasted pineapple puree and garnished with a slice of grilled pineapple.
There’s also a list of shots for the brave-at-heart like the ‘Kansas Prairie Fire’ – Tequila with a hot sauce pellet that sinks to the bottom before drinking, the ‘Sol Glo’ – a chilled shot of rum with splash of lime, dropped into a half pint of Sol and the ‘Sammy Jäger’ – made with Sambuca and Jäger.

Nick Benjamin, executive director for the Power & Light District, said Fieri’s new place will add to the energy of the entertainment district.
“Guy Fieri is one of the premier chefs and TV personalities in the country, and it is incredibly exciting that he is bringing his energy and talent to the heart of downtown Kansas City at KC Live! in the Power & Light District,” he said in a statement.
The new restaurant is accepting job applications.

Guy Fieri’s menu focuses on street tacos and nachos.
