Artists in Residence: Creative Strategies in the Age of Coronavirus

Stay-at-home orders prompted by the COVID-19 pandemic have ravaged broad swaths of society, ranging from transportation and hospitality to restaurants and bars.
The outbreak also has hit the creative class particularly hard. Artists, which often live on a shoestring in the best of times, are scrambling to adjust to a world in which public spaces are closed, and the arts and entertainment are consumed remotely.
Flatland’s new video series, “Artists In Residence,” takes a look at how local artists are coping with the Kansas City area’s new, presumably temporary, reality.
Each short episode of this interview series, hosted by Flatland’s Creative Arts Producer Brad Austin, brings a different perspective on how artists are using this time to their advantage, how it has caused them hardship and what they are learning from this unusual moment in their lives.
Our first artist in residence is illustrator Shane Tyler, who shares his story in the attached video.
