Laughter is the most spontaneous emotional response. It can explode unannounced at the least expected moment.

Kansas City filmmakers Lolo Loren and Patrick Poe have devoted the past decade to the pursuit of such moments. The husband and wife team recently visited with Art House to discuss the hard work behind pulling it off in their recent comedy feature “Almost, Sorta, Maybe,” which follows a woman who has an existential crisis after being offered a job promotion.

“It’s a movie where people will see it, and they don’t think it’s about us,” Poe said. “But, in reality, every film you write is about yourself in some way.”

To learn more about the filmmakers, and their work, watch the attached video.

John McGrath is a video producer and host of Art House for Kansas City PBS.
