Cornucopia Brings Carnival, Fall Festivities This Weekend to Downtown

Grand Boulevard by the T-Mobile Center will become a carnival midway this weekend with a Ferris wheel and other rides as part of the Cornucopia festival being put on by the Power & Light District from today through Sunday.
What the P&L District is describing as its signature fall festival was held for the first time for a single day in 2019, but was skipped last year because of the Covid pandemic. It’s coming back for a full weekend run.
“We’re thrilled to be bringing back Cornucopia after taking a year off due to the pandemic in 2020,” John Moncke, president for the P&L District said in a statement.
“After a successful single-day event in 2019, we will be expanding the festival throughout the weekend and look forward to adding in new elements like the ferris wheel at the carnival and the Troostival KC Music Night.”
The carnival rides on Grand were set up Thursday afternoon.
The weekend will kick off with a carnival today followed by a day filled of exciting fall activities and crafts on Saturday, according to a press release.
On Sunday, Cornucopia is teaming up with Troostival to close out the weekend with a pop-up concert featuring a stimulating night of local Kansas City musicians.
The festival will feature seasonal food and drink including caramel apples and cider, live music, fall-themed crafts and activities, local craft vendors and and more.
In addition to the carnival rides, there will be sidewalk art, pumpkin carving, pony rides, yard games, mini golf, and other family-friendly activities including a petting zoo will fill the streets surrounding the district, according to the release.
The Cornucopia carousel features some vintage Americana decor.
Cornucopia is a free event and will take place from 5-9 pm today, and from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday.
On Sunday, the KC Chiefs watch party in KC Live! will be followed by Troostival, a concert on the KC Live! stage that amplifies the sounds and reveals the art of Black creatives in Kansas City, at 7 p.m.
The free, all-ages Troostival pop-up show will include performances by We The People, Marcus Lewis and Love, Mae C.
