Art Garden KC, a weekly event featuring 60 vendors, kids’ art activities and an open mic showcase, begins this Sunday at the City Market Park and runs through Oct. 30.

This is the first year for Art Garden KC at the small park at Third and Main west of the City Market. It originated last year as a consortium of artists and makers in the nearby Pendleton Heights neighborhood.

“As a non-profit focused on supporting local artists, we’re thrilled to be at a venue that will elevate our artists’ visibility and expand their exposure to the greater community,” Art Garden KC Founder Bethany Alzanadi said in a statement.

Handmade jewelry, décor, ceramics, fiber arts, leatherwork, wood crafts are just a few of the handcrafted local items that will be regularly sold at Art Garden, according to a press release.

“We’re very excited to welcome Art Garden KC to City Market Park,” Sue Patterson, City Market’s marketing director, said in a statement.

“Their works are imaginative and unexpected and will broaden the Farmers Market experience with an emphasis on diversity, inclusivity, and creativity for the entire
community.”

Patterson said City Market visitors have already gotten a taste of Art Garden KC during Fresh Fridays, a summertime series introduced in June that takes place on the first Friday evening of each month through September.

Hours for the Art Garden KC Sunday events will be from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
