“American Graduate: Getting to Work” | Inspiring Entrepreneurship With the MECA Challenge

Changing the mindset of high school students is the fundamental goal of the MECA Challenge. 

“Whatever our community is going to become is fueled by these younger generations, yet other school experiences aren’t really preparing them for the problem solving… our community needs,’’ says Katie Kimbrell, director of education with the Kansas City Startup Foundation.

The MECA Challenge is a one-day innovation competition that pushes students from diverse backgrounds to collaborate on solving real-life problems. At bottom, it seeks to promote entrepreneurial thinking in an educational setting.

Restoration of Black church in Parkville inspires rainbow coalition

The community has rallied around the restoration of Parkville, Missouri’s, Washington Chapel. Built in 1907, the chapel has been a haven for a Black population that has not always been welcome in town.
