A lilting wisp of nostalgia never does any harm.
That’s the charm of “Another Hat,” a song from “Overture: The Musical,” created by S#arp Women. The song is a paean to the tradition of women donning a lovely chapeau for a high-toned evening at the theater.
“It’s my absolute favorite song in this entire show,” declares Krista Eyler, composer and co-writer of “Overture: The Musical,” which recounts the Kansas City Philharmonic’s struggle to survive during its 1953-1954 season.
Enjoy the attached video, part of “KC Performs,” a program developed by Kansas City PBS during the pandemic to help close the gap between performer and audience.
Watch it twice and the melody of “Another Hat” will stick with you the rest of the day.
It’s a good thing.
