KC Performs | Rachmaninoff Inspires Moving Dance Performance

KC Performs

October 15, 2021  |  Brad Austin  |  1 min read

The COVID-19 pandemic has tested us in innumerable ways, and our responses have been equally varied.

The Owen/Cox Dance Group and Kansas City Chorale were inspired to collaborate on “And The Darkness Has Not Overcome It,” backed by an achingly beautiful composition by Sergei Rachmaninoff. The results of their collaboration appears in an upcoming episode of “KC Performs,” a program developed by Kansas City PBS during the pandemic to help close the gap between performer and audience.

“This piece features two movements from Rachmaninoff’s ‘All-Night Vigil,’ and was filmed on stage at Yardley Hall at Johnson County Community College,” said Jennifer Owen, co-founder and artistic director of the Owen/Cox Dance Group.

Enjoy the attached video, which takes its cue from the following Bible verse:

“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” — John 1:5
