Park International Center for Music, a renowned program at Park University, prides itself on a “boutique” style of mentorship.
Student musicians work one-on-one with professors, much like apprenticeships from years past. At Park ICM, students from all parts of the world come to the Midwest to hone their craft.
“We have 30 wonderful musicians from all over the world right here in Kansas City,” said Lisa Hickok, executive director of Park ICM.
Case in point, Kenny Broberg. Broberg is a pianist at Park ICM whose gorgeous and moving performance of one of Nikolai’s Medtner’s renowned “Fairy Tales” can be seen in this video.
Here, he brings to life one of Medtner’s classic “Fairy Tale” compositions, known for its interplay of harmony and counterpoint.
His performance is a welcome addition to “KC Performs,”, a Kansas City PBS show created to offer an outlet for performers affected by the pandemic’s impact on live venues.
