Libraries have always had their fans, but the hushed, warehouse experience of the past is gone. In fact, there has been an important revolution in what our libraries do, and here in Kansas City we have some of the best in the country.

Through a series of four short films, Flatland explores and celebrates four different areas of practice. We’ll spend time with a new wave of librarians – from business advisors to child-literacy gurus – all determined to meet the shifting needs of the communities they serve. The books are still there, but now you’ll find computers and 3D printers, library-by-mail, and all manner of classes – even chair yoga. These libraries are loud — prepare to be astonished!

Explore the video series, ‘Libraries Out Loud,’ beginning Wednesday, July 5 on flatlandkc.org, and tune in as the library directors come together for a special Kansas City Week in Review with host Nick Haines at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, August 4, on KCPT.
