A familiar team is working together again to develop a 100-unit apartment project at the southeast corner of Linwood and Troost.

UC-B Properties and Milhaus have formed a partnership for the project.

It would join another 89-unit development proposed by Indianapolis-based Milhaus for the southwest corner of the same intersection.

“We realized we could work together better on the two corners,” said John Hoffman of UC-B. “We’re in the process of getting the finalized design for the east side.”

A Milhaus representative could not be reached for comment.

UC-B originally had been working with Brinshore Development for the project proposed for the southeast corner.

When the plan was announced a year ago, it was described as work force housing with a mix of studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom units. Monthly rents are expected to range from $900 for a studio to $1,400 for a two-bedroom.

UC-B originally had been pursuing the 89-unit development as well, but sold the development rights to Milhaus.

The two entities have had a pattern of working together on projects including the Marcato, a 182-unit apartment development at 27th and Troost, and the Gallerie apartment development south of Crown Center along Gillham Road.

UC-B also developed Scholars Row, a 50-unit apartment project at 55th and Troost, and the LaQuinta Hotel at 24th and Troost.

Milhaus has been in negotiations with the Kansas City Area Transportation Authority to develop a 52-unit apartment project at the southwest corner of 31st and Troost.

Milhaus is currently working on two other big apartment projects in the urban core, the 193-unit Tracks development in the Freight House District of the Crossroads, and the 223-unit Jamestown Square project at 39th and State Line across from KU Med.

The Indianapolis developer also has been in negotiations with the Kansas City Area Transportation Authority to develop a 52-unit apartment project that would include affordable housing at the southwest corner of 31st and Troost.
